We have discussed brand names before on the podcast and in the blog. This time I have been inspired to discuss the topic by
a beer company from Queensland Australia.
I was at my local liquor warehouse getting some drinks for an impending party we were about to host. I was looking at the selection of beers when a particular brew jumped out at me. It was a beer brewed in the style of English Bitter and it was named “My Wife’s Bitter”.
Beer is the most popular alcoholic beverage in Australia we have a considerable number of locally brewed beers and a large number of imported beers. So this new beer needed a memorable name. It needed to prompt the first purchase as well as prompt discussion.
There are several things to consider when naming something. What is your product/brands image?
Is it Old or Young?
Is it Male or Female?
Is it Serious or Silly?
Is it a Vitamin or a Medicine?
This beer company knew their market were young males so they went for a fun name that appealed more to males. You should think about these things when naming a business or product.
In the podcast I also make mention of Steve Fallon and how he rebrand his business with great success. Steve has a blog at Digital Marketing Brisbane which is well worth visiting.
