Social Media Warning

Social Media has lost its innocents.  Courts in Australia have recently found companies responsible for what fans and followers in social media are saying.  As crazy as it sounds you are now responsible for what you say as well as what others say.

Two companies, one a beer company and the other a vodka manufacturer were both held responsible for comments made by fans on their Facebook fan pages.  The beer company was found guilty for allowing offensive comments and the Vodka manufacturer for leaving a comment up that was seen as misleading advertising.  Neither of these comments came from the companies.  This means you are now responsible for the words and actions of others.

If you have a social media site/page from Facebook to Pinterest, you have to monitor the comments and interactions otherwise you could end up in court.  By leaving a comment in an area that you control it is seen as your comment and your responsibility.

This is discussed in more detail in the podcast.
